Sequoia Students gather on Wednesdays and Sundays. On Wednesdays, the focus is on walking through books of the Bible—although a topical study may occasionally occur. For Sundays, the focus is on doctrine and seeing Christ in all the Scriptures.

The purpose of meeting together regularly is to spur one another on to love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24), to equip students and their families for the work of the gospel (Ephesians 4:12) , and to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20).

Current Wednesday Night Study

The Gospel of John stands out from the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. In many ways, John pierces through our perception of the world being purely about the physical things we can see before us. It’s not just the physical things of earth, but the spiritual aspects of life that also matter. From the beginning of his gospel, John makes certain we are aware of how the spiritual meets the physical world. John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (CSB). The truth is the our God, who is spirit, took on human flesh to dwell on this earth and deliver us from spiritual bondage to sin and our doomed fate of death. This is only accomplished through the God-man, Jesus Christ. John’s purpose of writing then is simple, “These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (John 20:31 CSB). As we study this book, we will study with the intention of seeing how by believing in Jesus we may have life in Jesus.
