Sequoia Students gather on Wednesdays and Sundays. It is clear and evident that the most beneficial use of our time is to study God’s Word and apply it. Because of this, our focus is mainly to see how God’s Word is still relevant for us today. This means that topics such as: “Marriage, Dating, Sex, and Lust”, “Friendship”, “Emotions”, “What Salvation is and Looks Like”, “Basics of the Church”, “Finding God’s Will”, etc., are the various subjects we will cover. A normal, Bible-preaching church will often go through books of the Bible together, but because we only have 6 formative years to walk alongside you in discipling your children, therefore, the topical approach seems best for the students. However, we do not just pick out random Bible verses. The goal of every lesson and discussion is to see what God’s Word says in context, and how it applies to these various situations. We do not want to teach your students that random Bible verse picking is the appropriate way to read the Bible. What we do want is to teach your students the authority of God’s Word in their lives.

It is highly encouraged that you attend the regular Sunday morning service with your students as the church walks through whole books at a time. This will also aid in your developing your student’s ability to know God’s Word in context.

The purpose of meeting together regularly is to spur one another on to love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24), to equip students and their families for the work of the gospel (Ephesians 4:12) , and to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20).

Current Wednesday Night Study

As Christians, suffering is something that is promised and to be expected in our lives. But we acknowledge that we suffer differently than the rest of the world. We suffer as ones who have hope. This study is designed to inform students about how suffering impacts us and how we are to respond to it. We will answer the basic question of what suffering is. We will also build an understanding of suffering that establishes persecution, effects from sin, and consequences of our sin as reasons why we suffer. All of this points to having trust in our sovereign God. The goal of examining our suffering as Christians is to help us grow in our dependence on our good God who does what is right and is in control.

Helpful Resources For Discipleship

Ministering to the Hearts of Skeptical Teenagers

A helpful article that helps us think through how to engage with skeptics of the faith. Find the article here.

Rooted Ministry

Rooted Ministry is a very good resource for gospel-centered youth ministry. The great thing about Rooted is not only do they have articles for parents, but a plethora of podcasts as well. It’s a great website to engage with and find help in your students’ discipleship.

Bible Reading Plans

Building the routine of reading the Bible now will help students have a habit of reading the Bible for life. However, most students don’t know where to begin. Ligonier Ministries has helpfully put together an article organized with plenty of Bible readings plans to help you and your students find the right plan for yourself and them. Find the article here.
